We usually keep our blog posts focused on transcripts, added context, and historical analysis. But we wanted to use this space to share an update with everyone who has been following the show.
Last month, The Lion and the Sun received the Bronze Award in the Best History Podcast category at the Signal Awards. The Signal Awards are built around recognizing work that pushes the podcast medium forward. It highlights projects that bring substance, clarity, and originality to audio storytelling. Once a year, the Academy goes through thousands of hours of submitted work and selects the shows that stand out.
The Judging Academy includes a wide range of voices from across the audio world, among them Latif Nasser (co-host of Radiolab), Jay Shetty (host of On Purpose with Jay Shetty), Ney Alvarez (Head of Audio at Al Jazeera), and Gretta Cohn (CEO of Pushkin Industries). From the large pool of entries, they chose the winners, and we’re grateful that The Lion and the Sun was included among them.
In less than two years, our attempt to retell Iran’s modern history in an exciting and accessible way has reached listeners around the world, and seeing it recognized in the best history podcast means a great deal to us.
We want to thank everyone who has supported the show, shared episodes, sent questions, and offered us feedback. Your engagement has shaped the way the podcast has grown. Many of the improvements we’ve made are the direct result of what we’ve learned from you.
As we mark this milestone, we’re already working ahead. Production for Season 3 is underway, and new episodes will be out in January 2026. We look forward to continuing the story and bringing you further into the history that shapes modern Iran.
